Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Overall, this Switch version stands up right next to the other versions of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and I was pleasantly surprised by it. While some things could be better in the game as a whole it doesn’t deter from the overall enjoyment of the story of Dragon Ball. I personally would like to have seen this one start all the way back in Dragon Ball when we first meet everyone, which would truly be a Kakarot story. It is now available on the Switch for 59.99 USD. Have fun with it.
So before I get started on this review I would like to apologize for it being late. I got really sick when trying to play for the review and it put me behind.
How fitting that I’m reviewing a brand new version of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot exactly three years after I initially reviewed it on the Xbox One. Back then, I had immense hopes for what was supposed to be the ultimate action RPG, for everyone who grew up a fan of the anime (basically half of everyone born between 1991 and 1995). It didn’t exactly disappoint me, as I did have my fair share of fun with it, but it had problems. Some of them were due to its overall design, but a good chunk of t...
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an epic way to experience the DBZ story. Don't let that Unsupported rating fool you, this game works amazing on the Steam Deck too!
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot on Switch is a stunningly uncompromised port of last year’s massive RPG. It looks and runs fantastically, while also including all three DLC chapters in a perfectly portable package.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an action RPG that takes players on the most dramatic and epic telling of the Dragon Ball Z story, experienced through the eyes of Kakarot, the Saiyan better known as Goku.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot takes the very familiar Dragon Ball Z storyline and makes us play through it all over again for the millionth time. This is our review!
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot delivers a well-crafted, satisfying action/RPG, provided you’re already invested in the DBZ mythos — and ready to hear the same old story over again. The open-world elements aren’t as well-developed as they could have been, but the combat and gameplay variety help carry the game through some rough patches.
Kakarot is at its strongest specifically when telling you the story of Z, with beautifully animated cutscenes that sometimes feel like they popped straight out of the anime. Certain boss fights are incredibly hype, such as the final battle between Goku and Frieza that had me cheering as every blow shook the screen and it truly felt like I was having a battle on a planet that was about to explode. That’s really what this whole thing comes down to in the end: for people that are already big fans of Dragon Ball Z, as a whole, Kakarot has some value as a walk down memory lane and a way to re-exp…
Pretty much the optimal way to make a game based on a highly popular intellectual property. For the last 30 years, we've seen countless Dragon Ball games released for pretty much every platform, so [...]
Without much flair or impact, the second part of the DLC doesn't seem to strive to create a cohesive whole with the first.
There have been numerous Dragon Ball RPG games in the past, but most were bland, or mediocre at best. Does Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot for the Playstation 4 offer fans something worthwhile? And will it entice non-fans as well?
