Two years is a long time in video games, and it’s rare that a release so far out from its original incarnation can generate excitement. However, Blizzard’s constant improvements and adjustments have led to a stellar port to new-gen consoles, including the complete experience available on PC, plus several smart bonus features. It’s an ideal way to play the game for the first time or the tenth, especially if you have any mix of friends to play with, either on your couch or across the country.

Straight out of the fires of hell, and into the fray against the angel of Death, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls wastes no time. Some people may say that their time was more than wasted during Diablo III’s launch given its disastrous release due to the unstable servers. The same can’t be said for Reaper of Souls. In fact, Reaper of Soul’s launched incredibly smoothly, with next to no hitches.  The shiny new additions include a new character class, a raised level cap (70), a new act, and a new gameplay mode. In reality, Blizzard had their work cut out for them to save their flagship dungeon crawler’s reputation. Though it sold incredibly well, Diablo III left fans of the franchise feeling disappointed. The requirement to constantly be online already upset some audiences, but when the login server’s burst into flames the night of Diablo III’s release it was game over. Though this is a mostly forgotten offense, more issues began to surface as time passed.

New game modes, better loot, and a new class make this a recommended play.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls aims to provide fun and ultimately manages it quite well. The flexible skill system opens way for experimentation. The addition of the Crusader adds some extra bulkiness to the class roster. The gameplay is now stable, the endgame more appealing. If you’re looking for a high definition variant of Diablo II, you won’t find it here. If however you were one of those who always thought Diablo III could use some improvement, or just happen to be looking for a great hack ‘n’ slash RPG, do not hesitate in picking Reaper of Souls up.

Should you welcome the reaper?

With the introduction of Reaper of Souls, a few things are noticed as soon as you fire up the game. You see that not only do you have access to a new Act (V), but you're also given access to an Adventure more that will be unlocked once you beat…

This score is based on the number of Legendary items I found during my first day with the game (The .4 was because one of them wasn't used by my class). You could have had a ten Blizzard, you could have had a ten. That said, Loot 2.0 helps soften the blow of getting gameplay modes that could have been patched in, and a story that is over in no time flat.

With the new expansion comes a new class. The Crusader is a resourceful and valiant warrior who stands up for their cause. No task ever gets in the way of their mission. The Crusader is based on the Paladin class from Diablo II. They are a mid to close range melee hybrid. With mid range spells designed to cripple the opponent and force them to focus on you whilst punishing them for doing so. She has a lot of utility increasing the stats of allies whilst reducing the speed and damage of enemies; she is a must have in any team. She is best used as a major tank pulling focus from the enemies allowing the more damage focused classes like the Demon Hunter or the Wizard to go to work. Her story is revealed through speaking to NPC’s and listening as she quests for the fallen star.

Does Reaper of Souls justify its asking price of a full game? If it only presented itself with Act V then no, but the inclusion of an all-new-ish character class and Adventure Mode does soothe the sting. Reaper of Souls, in conjunction with the Loot 2.0 patch, finally brings us the Diablo III we want and that fans deserve.
