Creativity-infused cartoon combat blends perfectly with trick-or-treating nostalgia to give this humorous little download some tremendous pull. Costume Quest’s bold personality and utter charm mostly makes up for its more repetitive moments, and when you throw in the re-tooled save system and free DLC, the PC version is an alluring package. If your tastes lean more towards lighthearted fare instead of overt gore splatter, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better pick than this endearing Halloween-themed RPG.

For the committed, there is some DLC to add more adventure to the game, although that bumps the asking price for the game up significantly. In the end, Costume Quest does what it does best as a small, cheap, downloadable game – as bite-sized RPG it’s impossibly charming, relaxed stuff. We love it for that, but we’re still waiting for the PSN’s first epic RPG.

Burned by the saleability of their retail releases, Double Fine's unique, quirky concepts feel right at home on the PlayStation Store. If Costume Quest is an experiment, then it definitely seems to have paid off. Double Fine's games will certainly meet much greater success on the PSN, thanks in part to smaller budgets and lower retail prices.

Instead, you should listen to Adriaan, because he's amazing and totally right about everything, and I'm totally wrong. Read all of Adriaan's amazing thoughts here.

Luckily enough, the game’s length is short overall, but perfect for the game. I’d say it doesn’t take more than 6-8 hours to beat the game even to 100%. The game is simple, the quests are simple and sometimes similar, the combat is simple, and due to this it can get boring after a while, however the lenght of the game is just good enough so that it doesn’t outlast its welcome. By the time I started getting bored with it, I found myself at the last boss. This coupled with the game’s charm, and its humour, which is often made for older audiences as well with it’s ironic and sarcastic jokes make ...
