Blazing Chrome is nothing short of an extreme look at the mid-90’s era of shooters of all identities, whether it’s the alien invasions of Contra or Treasure’s magnum opus, Gunstar Heroes. It may seem like I’ve been playing a lot of these historically-inspired action games of late (Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night being my most recent adventure) and I couldn’t be happier. These games were what made up my childhood and most of my formative years and taste in gaming, so to see the genres that I grew up with being explored with modern mechanics and toolsets.
Blazing Chrome is a true old-school throwback to the glory days of Metal Slug and Contra. It may pay a little too much homage to its forebears, but there's plenty of satisfying hardcore action on offer for the faithful.
Blazing Chrome is a top-of-the-line appetizer to what could be a masterpiece of a five-course meal. I really hope this game does well because I cannot wait to see what JoyMasher does for their follow-up. If they can build on the rock-solid foundation they've created here, they might produce something truly spectacular.

Of course, gameplay aside, the look and sounds of the golden era of video games are vital. Blazing Chrome is unashamedly proud of its rocking soundtrack and sympathy of destruction. Every second of the game is glazed in a toe-tapping soundtrack that crafts the personality of each level or boss. From sci-fi beats to fast-paced tunes, it all sounds ear smashingly amazing. Clearly, there has been great attention and respect paid to replicate the sounds of the classics, but still creating something entirely individual to Blazing Chrome.
