With that kind of scale it would have been wonderful to have a multiplayer mode where a group of a number of mercenaries per side could team up to participate in strategic battles, but alas Bladestorm happened before online play was a big enough deal for smaller developers to bother with. And released on the PS3 at the time it was I do feel that it probably never hit the sales numbers it needed to justify a sequel. Perhaps the PSN release to a much larger audience can generate enough new fans for a Bladestorm 2 release about a year into the PS4’s life, with that multiplayer added in.

Bladestorm is fun, for the most part. If it had a little more polish and fewer technical flaws, we might go so far as to say that this is one of the finest KOEI games we've seen in a while. The change of pace and game direction is incredibly refreshing, so fans of the various Warriors games may want to give this one a shot, especially because those fans are probably used to overlooking technical disappointments. And, in the end, we're total suckers for Joan of Arc. Come on, she's just too cool.

Bladestorm: The Hundred Years’ War is set in the early half of the 14th century as France and England battle for control over Western Europe. From KOEI, the makers of Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi, Bladestorm takes the classic Japanese button masher to the next level. Yes, you can still get massive combos, but now that is simply not enough to win the game. Much more a real time strategy game than an action hack and slash, tactics are a vital element of gameplay.
