Bayonetta 3 Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Bayonetta 3 successfully reinvents itself in many ways to offer an experience that feels worthy of the title of sequel. It successfully shakes up the combat from the previous games by implementing new abilities that help keep things familiar but fresh. Some of the gimmicky battles bring the pacing down and dreaded, but ubiquitous Switch-related performance issues remain. As a whole, Bayonetta 3 eclipses its predecessor and is truly one of the most bombastic and enjoyable action games you can play.
After eight long years of waiting, Bayonetta is back with all her flash and pomp intact. And while I expect this entry to hold my interest for quite a while, I hope we don’t have to wait another eight years before we see one of the biggest names in gaming return.
It took five years for Nintendo Switch gamers to get their hands on Bayonetta 3, and it was well worth the wait. If Nintendo decides to fund a sequel, then it seems likely that Bayonetta 4 will wind up on the next-generation Nintendo console, and perhaps that entry can address this one's sometimes-disappointing graphics and story problems. Platinum apparently has ideas for at least nine Bayonetta games, and if they're even half as good as Bayonetta 3, they should all be an incredibly fun time.
Bayonetta 3 is a delicious sequel to the action-packed franchise we all know and love. While it doesn't re-invent the wheel, this witch shows she still has a lot more to offer.
Oh Bayonetta 3, you long withheld delight. First announced all the way back in 2017, PlatinumGames' return to their flagship franchise was well overdue. Busy
Even outside of the ending, there is a significant tonal difference here compared to the previous games. Bayonetta 3 is a wonderful action game, but at times it didn’t feel like I was playing Bayonetta. The series’ iconic risque, irreverent attitude is toned down. The sexualization that was so pervasive in the previous games is still present, but muted, despite the game having a new option to censor it. Even some of Bayonetta’s dialogue feels off, like it’s trying to mimic her attitude without quite achieving it. The entire game feels strangely subdued despite the high-scale action. By the tim...
Bayonetta 3 is an action-packed romp filled with the insanity and sassiness you’d expect from these titles and PlatinumGames. The ending will rub many of you the wrong way, but everything up to that point is very much worth it.
When was the first time Bayonetta 3 was announced? Was it 2017? I honestly do not remember at this point. I feel like it has been so long ago now, to the point I had already given up on Platinum Games delivering it for the current hardware it was designed for, especially after the announcement of multiple other projects which were released beforehand, like Astral Chain and (urgh) Babylon’s Fall. But Platinum, despite suffering from some legendarily poor internal management, wasn’t going t...
Ultimately, we’re left a little conflicted with Bayonetta 3. This is the worst looking and performing Bayonetta yet, with a grander scale that both detracts and adds to the gameplay. We love the fact that we can finally take control of fearsome demons, for example, but we don’t like the fact that the camera struggles when fighting other gargantuan enemies. Add in some other frustrations, and you have a game that sometimes feel like the best the Bayonetta series has to offer, but other times the worst.
Bayonetta 3 is an excellent action game held back from being a great one.
A Bayonetta 3 review at this point is largely meaningless. Those who have been looking forward to this third entry in the series surely already have it. But if it's still lingering in your wish list, allow me to suggest it's OK to remove it.Read More
Since Bayonetta 3 launched, there has been a lot of discussion regarding its storytelling compared to previous entries. Despite some criticisms, the game amplifies familiar charming characters, action-packed set pieces, and satisfying combat, providing an almost non-stop thrill ride with only a few minor issues.
