Professional reviews from gaming critics
Battle Brothers has exhibited a clear vision in what it wants to be: a painfully grueling and dark world with a system of commerce that’s equally punishing. This is a system where crowns make the world go round and everything is replaceable, for a price. The breadth of dialogue, world-building paragraphs, and light agency in storytelling let you build the world according to what you hear. It’s a world I want to dive into again and again, even if I know this incarnation will be just as taxing.
Battle Brothers is a solid, exhilarating experience that might turn away some due to its difficulty, but attract others because of its challenge.
Don’t let some clunky inventories scare you off from this excellent strategy RPG.
Despite being constructed from some very familiar components, Battle Brothers has enough unique style to stand out. The turn-based tactical RPG takes place in a
Recently ported to Xbox and PlayStation consoles, it’s only a facelift away from being a classic must-play title!
Battle Brothers isn't for everyone, but those willing to take the beating will have access to a rewarding game with tons of replay value. It's not hard to turn a cold shoulder on the sheer amount of ports, remakes, and remasters on [...]
Battle Brothers is a well-made game from the technical standpoint, but the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired.
It's clear that Battle Brothers is meant to be challenging for even the most hardcore tactical RPGamers. The lack of help and optimization issues for consoles could have some quitting before the mechanics even have a chance to become fun.

The same principle applies to Battle Brothers, a strategy game where you command a company of struggling, mud-splattered medieval mercs. It’s not just a good game, it’s a strategy masterpiece. Unfortunately, a shaky port makes the Switch version of the game clearly inferior.
I really enjoy its no-nonsense approach to its creative vision. It’s a mercenary sandbox. There’s no main plot or story shoehorned onto it. It places you in a role and tells you to make it work. There is no fluff in Battle Brothers. Every piece of it works together to form a cohesive package, nothing is out of place.
I’m all for games being complex, challenging, and unforgiving. Just this week I reviewed a simulation title, in A-Train, that comes dangerously close to being a genuine degree in urban planning and an MBA, rolled into one. But, if you are going to go down the route of unforgiving complexity, the least you can do is make sure there is an adequate tutorial and learning curve to give players a chance. Battle Brothers is going to lose a lot of potential fans because it point-blank refuses to teach them how to play. What is being called a “tutorial” in the game just… isn’t, really. And th…
